Outgoing CFTC Commissioner Summer Mersinger signaled the agency could greenlight crypto perpetual futures contracts in the near term. These derivatives, already traded offshore, may soon gain official US market access under regulatory oversight.

"We’re reviewing applications now and expect live trading shortly," Mersinger told Bloomberg during her final weeks at the commission. The move WOULD repatriate significant trading volume currently occurring beyond US jurisdiction.
